Dream it up
Foxgloves on a hike, mushrooms on a walk, a mug someone wished existed.
Wedge the clay
Cut, weighed and kneaded until every air bubble is gone.
Throw
Centered on the wheel and pulled up into a cup. The part that looks like magic.
Trim & carve
Leather hard pieces get trimmed, carved and a hand-pulled handle.
Bisque fire
First trip through the kiln. Fragile clay comes out tough as bisque.
Glaze
Dips, drips, splatters and a maker's stamp on the bottom.
Fix the kiln
Kilns break. Good thing the potter is a mechanical engineer.
Glaze fire
Back in for the long, hot finale. A full day to fire and cool. No peeking.
Open the lid
The best moment in pottery: new treasures out of the kiln.
Fill it
Pour something hot and wrap both hands around it. That's the last step.
